Merit Badge Books
Heather Jackson
Merit Badge Books is a concept in development to become the premier independent bookstore
in the Village of Hamburg. A brick and mortar bookstore with a concentration on new trade
books for the whole family, it would amplify what creator, Heather Jackson identifies as the
“Three C’s”: Community, Curation, and Convening. The goal of the bookstore is to help bolster Hamburg’s health and wealth by keeping money circulating in the local economy, curating a unique inventory that will satisfy the needs of the customer base, and providing a welcoming
space that fosters the growth of community culture.
Heather Jackson is a Western New York native who lives in the village of Hamburg with her
husband and two young daughters. She has worked for over fifteen years in the media industry as a storyteller, supporting businesses and individuals through idea conception, storyboarding, research, copywriting, editing, and content production. She has a particular interest in amplifying the voices of girls and women and is passionate about the art of creating authentic, people-first connections through stories. She believes that a successful community grows out of its citizens'
willingness to show up and get involved where they can.
Quick Wick Campfire
Charles Accivatti
Quick Wick is the first fully assembled fire starter pack with one mission: Empower everyone to
effortlessly enjoy a perfect fire. The Quick Wick kit is a ready-to-light fire pack with a single wick
that burns without maintenance for up to three hours. The fully assembled kit includes wick,
accelerant pack, and kindling housed inside firewood structure along with a box of matches.
Designed for use in fire pits and fireplaces alike, the Quick Wick kit makes building a fire as
easy as lighting a birthday candle.
Charles Accivatti, founder of Quick Wick, grew up in a suburb of Detroit. Amongst family and
friends, he's known as a "fire bug". Each year he anxiously awaited the two-week Northern
Michigan camping trip where he'd be in charge of building and tending to campfires. He always
cherished setting the stage for comforting memories. After graduating from the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Charles spent decades working in hospitality and has owned and
operated restaurants in Texas, Florida, Mexico and Morocco. He resides in West Falls, NY with
his wife, daughter, cat, bunny and puppy.
Clean Earth Refillery
Erin Huff
Clean Earth Refillery is the first-of-its-kind to come to Hamburg, NY. In line with the new
designation of the Village of Hamburg becoming a Clean Energy Community, a refillery
promotes zero waste living, and is meant to be part of a small, accessible location in the
community to cut down on plastic waste, as well as travel and production emissions. Customers
are encouraged to reuse their own containers or purchase reusable containers and refill them
with high-quality, everyday products for themselves and their homes, such as laundry
detergents, dish soaps, shampoos, conditioners and other household cleaners.
Erin Huff has worked in Human Services for almost 20 years and is passionate about helping
others. Combined with her love of nature and the Earth, her desire to positively impact both has
led her on this journey to create a refillery. By eliminating single-use plastics, waste in landfills
will be significantly reduced, benefitting all.
